This page is about me! And, of course, a little about this blog too. (Aren’t you excited? I’m excited.)
So, my name is Katy, and I’m a PhD student in the School of Psychology at the University of Dundee. You can check out my University page here – if you’re really that bothered about my full credentials. I graduated from the University of Dundee in 2010 with a 1st class Psychology (MA Hons) degree. I loved it so much, I came back to do my PhD! I completed my PhD in Psychology in January 2015, passing my viva with minor corrections in March 2015.
I live with my husband and our two cats, Corbyn and Leelu (+10 internet points if you recognise their names), though we're hoping to move to a new house later this year. I currently work full time as an Assistant Psychologist in NHS Borders. Now I don't spend all my time working on my PhD I do random things like write fiction, read, go to the cinema lots, play computer games, sew and catch up with friends and family.
This blog is about my experiences as a PhD student. I hope to tell you about the practicalities of that life, from beginning my PhD right through to my viva. Due to the stressful (at times) nature of this sort of research, don’t expect it to be hunky dory all the time. I am, however, an optimistic and generally light-hearted person so no need to go running off for the SSRIs just yet.
I must emphasise as well that anything written in this blog is my opinion only and does not represent the opinions or beliefs of the School or any of its staff. Nor does anything I write here in any way represent the opinions of NHS Borders or its staff. I decided to write this for a multitude of reasons. Those are including but not limited to my desire to have some sort of reflective record of my time as a postgrad and also for anyone thinking of doing a PhD, currently doing a PhD or anyone just interested in psychology.
I hope you find something here that you like, be it that you learn something new or a little bit of entertainment, whatever. If you want to know any more, or have any questions about anything in this blog, please just shoot me an email at: email@example.com.
